Glad you posted this--very interesting. Even before reading your commentary, one could tell that there was some strange editing going on...the "greet your opponent" part in particular looked extremely fishy.I would have liked to see the bounce catch three times, instead of the behind-the-back--seems like the bounce was the higher-risk move? But you guys looked great on the show, imo. Congratulations on a solid performance.
Uh, so I watched the show again and am now very suspicious of ABC's motives now more than ever. Very strange to me how the so-called "Texas Crew" were the losing team. Texas being the epicenter of the political, religious right. Not only were they edited to appear fumbling, but the commentary was SO negative on their behalf. Clearly, they were using the words to make the audience like your team a whole lot more. That they would create this fake rivalry of the brown dudes vs. the tall blond, blue-eyed hipster was preposterous. Did you notice they did not give Paul and Augie the attention they SOOO deserved for their skills? I'm not saying you had anything to do with this, but the producers, I think, LOVED you a little too much. Why was it YOUR team? That didn't make sense considering how Paul and Augie are the most recent (and deserving) champs in the yo-yo community. How did this get started? Who contacted you about doing the show in the first place? It seems with all the attention they gave you particularly, that you are indeed headed for more (as Moseley implied.) But now you know how fake and weird TV is. They made you say what they wanted you to say once, but are you ready to do any more questionable things for fame? They're waiting. Think about it, and see if you can get your ass back to La La land, or stick to your integrity and do it your own way. [e.g., Nerdcore Doc Pop could reign supreme?]You've got a lot on your plate right now. I hope you're handling it with your usual panache.
just remember, you got screwed out of two minutes and 32 seconds.and editing, not writing, is the hot career for television these days. just edit some random stuff into a story, and bam! instant drama.slackers.
I'm sure he can manage to get that 2:32 on his own. Oh, Dude, write a song about this experience that's 2 minutes and 32 seconds long!
2:32? That is pretty much the best idea ever.Sort of reminds me of John Cage's "4'33"
Hi Doc.Just saw the video of the show and thought that it was pretty good. Do you think that there'll be a sudden interest in yoyos now? Also, would you do anything like this again?Any info on Yes, Absolutely yoyos? I couldn't find anything on your site but maybe I haven't looked hard enough.....PS. What yoyo were you using for the show? It was kinda hard to tell but looked like a Duncan Freehand.....
We're still friends when I'm not me. heh heh.YEAH for you and all the good stuff going on!!!
